Hotel companies in Christchurch are cashing in on the tourist
influx with a hotel-building boom, writes LIZ McDONALD.
H eaded up by what will be the South Island's tallest building,
Christchurch's hotel construction boom is shaking up the city.
Three new high-rise hotels are under construction in the central
city, with another being converted from an office building and a
fifth being built in Riccarton.
With visitor numbers growing and new tourist routes opening up
from destinations such as China, Canterbury's tourism figures are
rising ahead of the national average because of the region's fast-
growing international market.
