The Christchurch City Council has found a new way to help fund its
events strategy, but the method is worthy of scrutiny.
What a difference a jam jar makes on a rainy fiscal day,
especially for local body politicians eyeing an election in October.
Faced with a seemingly irresolvable tussle for limited funding
from rival events and festivals, the Christchurch City Council dipped
into its jam jar of stored cash, the Capital Endowment Fund (CEF).
Late last year it brought out a new events strategy that required
a rejigging of its $1.8 million budget to focus on a smaller number
of so-called iconic and major events.
