Government moves to ban benzylpiperazine (BZP) are futile, retailers say, with second- generation, non-BZP pills already developed and about to hit the shelves.

Under tough new legislation being drawn up by the Government and likely to be enacted by the end of the year, BZP has been classified as a class C1 drug, the same as cannabis.

The new law allows a six- month amnesty for personal use from the time it comes into force.
