When a team is 5-1 nobody wants to rock the boat. So nobody
expected carping from Mel Turpin or Ed Horton, until tonight the two
Bullets yet to see action this season.
Washington's second front-court unit of Harvey Grant, Mark Alarie
and Tom Hammonds played exceedingly well the first half-dozen games,
leaving little room for 6-foot-11 Turpin or 6-8 rookie Horton.
"Hopefully I'll be ready to go when {Coach Wes Unseld} does call
on me," Turpin said before he was called on against the Jazz tonight
and responded with six points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes.
Horton got in too, for four points in four minutes.
"I'm keeping myself loose and into the games," Turpin was saying.
