There was no mystery to this. Wes Unseld was desperate. His
Washington Bullets were losing to the Milwaukee Bucks, a team that
was in the process of shooting 36.8 percent from the floor and
missing a score of layups and uncontested shots.
So he looked down his bench. It was Turpin Time.
Center Mel Turpin responded with his best performance in a
Washington uniform. He turned the momentum of the game around, and
with late help from Bernard King, the Bullets stole an ugly 97-91
contest from the Bucks before 11,721 at Capital Centre, ending a
five-game losing streak.
In 13 minutes Turpin scored five points, blocked three shots and
