DENVER - Kobe Bryant was leaving for Philadelphia following
Sunday's All-Star Game to attend the funeral today of his paternal
grandfather, Joseph Bryant, who died over the weekend. No cause of
death was released by the family.
Bryant will not attend the Lakers practice this afternoon but
expected to return Tuesday morning and will be available later that
night to play against the Boston Celtics at Staples Center.
"He was really a private man,' Bryant said of his grandfather.
"We're having a private ceremony and everything. He just had a big
heart, a big, big heart. It's tough on all of us but it was coming.
My father, he's dealing with it pretty well. If he's all right, I'm
all right.'
