Mel Turpin was speaking with his agent, ProServ's Bill
Strickland, the other night in the Washington Bullets' locker room
when the media came in from its talk with Coach Wes Unseld.
"Here comes the press," Strickland said to Turpin. "I'd better
let you go."
Just a week ago, it would have been surprising to see any
reporter walking to Turpin's locker for game-related material, so far
down was he on the Bullets' depth chart.
Washington was using rookie Tom Hammonds with Harvey Grant and
Mark Alarie on the second-unit front court, with the 6-foot-11 Turpin
and rookie Ed Horton out of the Bullets' 10-man rotation. There was
