Article: SB County to return to paper ballots

San Bernardino County will revert to using paper ballots for upcoming elections so as to comply with a recent Secretary of State ruling that decertified the county's $16 million electronic voting system, officials said today.

The switch is expected to cost the county at least $1.5 million, said David Wert, the county's public information officer. The primary expense, he said, is because the county must purchase voting booths and paper ballots.

The change will also cause results to be delayed on election nights, said Kari Verjil, the county's Registrar of Voters.
