Article: Public 'servants' need to do a lot more serving

A house painter who refuses to make house calls? That would be one lousy house painter, right?

A pilot who won't get on an airplane? Wow, what a lousy pilot.

So, what is a public servant who won't serve the public?

Plain lousy, that's what.

Fortunately, there are few, if any, house painters who won't make house calls. And few, if any, pilots who won't get on an airplane.

But sadly, for some strange reason, there are many, many public servants who won't serve the public. At least not willingly.

It's almost as if there's an insidious virus that afflicts

public servants, and leaves them lethargic and unresponsive.

If my mail is any indication, there's a plague of this virus going ...
