Article: Motorcycle fatalities increasing

Six motorcyclists have died in crashes in the San Gabriel Valley in as many months, highlighting an increase in motorcycle fatalities at the county, state and national levels.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Kohler said the CHP sees no reason to believe the trend is going to turn around this year.

The most recent local crash occurred Oct. 1 and claimed the life of 18-year-old Glendora resident Joseph Garabet.

He was riding his 1991 Yamaha on Mount Baldy Road in the Angeles National Forest when he veered into the wrong side of the road for unknown reasons and struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck head-on, CHP officials said.
