Mel Turpin has made the Washington Bullets wonder. Is he ready
to take on big minutes and big responsibilites? Are his flashes of
good offensive play just that, flashes, or the portent of more
consistent activity?
That jury is still deliberating. But Turpin made the Minnesota
Timberwolves pay for trying to use a mini-sized center last night,
setting season highs with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with a
block in 23 minutes in a 112-99 victory over the expansion team,
Washington's fourth win in a row, before 6,703 at Capital Centre.
The 6-foot-11 Turpin had 13 of those points in the second half,
burning 6-6 1/2 Sam Mitchell, 6-6 Doug West most of the way and,
