Jerry Rhome, a Redskins assistant coach for five seasons, was
named offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers yesterday.
Rhome, 45, who has coached in the National Football League for 12
years, was quarterbacks coach with the Redskins, joining the team
when assistant Dan Henning left to become head coach of the Atlanta
Falcons. Before joining the Redskins, he spent seven seasons with
the Seattle Seahawks, five of them as offensive coordinator.
"I'm excited about taking the job with San Diego," Rhome said
last night from Tulsa, Okla., where he is attending his daughter's
