Article: Sex Researchers Warning About Heterosexual AIDS;Masters, Johnson Say Rate Underestimated

A study by human sexuality researchers William H. Masters and Virginia E. Johnson states that the number of heterosexuals infected with the AIDS virus has been "gravely underestimated," but public health officials question their research methods.

The findings, in sharp contrast to those of almost any other researcher, will be published in Monday's issue of Newsweek. Most recent studies indicate that far fewer than one percent of heterosexuals carry the AIDS virus.

The Masters and Johnson study, however, found that among 400 heterosexuals with at least six sex partners a year for the past five years, 7 percent of the women and 5 percent of the men were infected with the human ...
