Anybody who wants to own only one compact disc of Chopin's music
has just had the problem of choice simplified. The disc to get is
RCA's "Artur Rubinstein: Selections From the Chopin Collection"
(7725-2-RG), a sampler whose nearly 73 minutes of music include 14 of
the top-20 Chopin selections-all those pieces for which you cannot
forget the music or remember the name, like the Nocturnes in E-flat
and D-flat, the Mazurkas in D and B-flat, the Waltzes in A-flat and
C-sharp minor.
There is also a good selection of items with familiar names,
such as the "Minute" Waltz (which takes a sensible 1:48 in this
performance), the "Military" and "Heroic" Polonaises and the
ever-popular ...
