The bittersweet song was perfect for the unsung heroes of Hollywood, the fearless stuntmen who crashed cars for Robert Redford and put their lives on the line to make Clint Eastwood look so cool.

Twenty five years later and the courageous men who laughed in the face of danger for our cinematic enjoyment are a dying breed.

But although computer wizardry and on-set effects have reduced the need for stuntmen in films and TV, the public's love of death- defying entertainment has far from waned.
