William Morgan Goins Jr., 57, the retired owner of the old
Music-Arts Studio who also taught music in D.C. public schools from
1978 to 1980, died of congestive heart failure March 28 at his home
in New York City.
Mr. Goins opened his music studio in 1960. One of his teachers
was Roberta Flack, a Washington native, and one of his students was
actress Goldie Hawn, who grew up in Silver Spring.
During the 1960s, Mr. Goins produced and was the music director
of several local productions, including "Finian's Rainbow," "Lost in
the Stars" and "Sweet Charity."
He produced a memorial concert in 1964 at the Kennedy Center on
the first anniversary of the deaths of President John F. Kennedy and ...
