Some of you with particularly keen eyesight may have noticed that
the wristbands Danny Manning wears are numbered differently than his
jersey. Across Manning's chest is a 25; around his wrists, a 23.
The 23 is actually Archie Marshall's number. Marshall is the senior
forward whose collegiate career ended for all practical purposes in
Madison Square Garden Dec. 30 when he blew out his left knee in the
final of the Holiday Festival against St. John's. So severe was
Marshall's injury that he needed to be carried off the floor. In
Kansas' next game, to honor his friend and teammate, Manning took the
