The son of a rooming house owner who has been under investigation
by D.C. officials since three children died in a fire in one of his
buildings last week said yesterday that city inspectors checked six
of his father's rooming houses during the weekend and allowed all but
one to remain open.
On Saturday, city inspectors closed a rooming house at 619
Kennedy St. NW, citing "emergency violations." At least 13 people
had been living in the house. The inspections followed a rooming
house fire Thursday at 514 M St. NE, where children aged 2, 4 and 5
died.
Russell C. Hughes, the owner of at least nine rooming houses and
other buildings in Northwest and Northeast, could not be reached for
comment ...
