Seat Belt Use Rises
Nearly 72 percent of the drivers in Montgomery County are using
safety belts-a 22 percent increase from December-according to a
survey recently conducted by the Montgomery County Police Department.
Police officers made visual checks of 1,223 drivers at five
county intersections-one in each of the five police districts.
The officers observed 890 motorists wearing safety belts and 333
without them.
The visual survey showed that 75 percent of the drivers were seen
using seat belts at Seven Locks and Montrose roads in Rockville; 56
percent at Old Georgetown Road and Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda; 70
percent at Georgia Avenue and Plyers Mill Road in Silver Spring; 80 ...
