Article: Jackson Makes Bid for Superdelegates; Candidate Billed As Party Builder

Jesse L. Jackson's top strategists launched a belated effort today to seek the support of the 646 "superdelegates" to the Democratic National Convention, contending that party candidates would do best with Jackson atop the ticket.

Jackson has made only informal efforts to court superdelegates, who may hold the key to the Democratic presidential nomination, and trails his chief rival, Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis, by about 3 to 1 among the critical group of party leaders.
