Former Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton was involved in
the accidental shooting of the manager of Payton's suburban Chicago
restaurant yesterday, police said.
The victim, Elmer Hudson, was wounded in a leg in the
Studebaker's restaurant office when a third, unidentified man handed
the weapon to Payton and it discharged, Schaumburg, Ill., Police
Chief Kenneth Alley said.
Payton was questioned and released, Alley said. Police
questioned Payton's wife Connie and four other employees who all
"corroborate the same story," and no charges are expected, the chief
said.
