Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring expects by mid-1990 to open
the first new nursing home in the Washington area with a special wing
for AIDS patients, officials said yesterday.
The $5.5-million facility, as planned, contains 135 beds,
including the 15-bed AIDS unit, and is to be built on a 13-acre site
in eastern Montgomery County, in the southwest corner of Greencastle
Road and Rte. 29 in Burtonsville, officials said.
"We expect the 15 beds to fill quickly," said hospital spokesman
John Walker, based on the increasing number of AIDS cases and the
need for nursing home care for AIDS patients.
