CALL me old-fashioned, but when I pay nearly pounds 50 for a quick meal with my partner at a restaurant, I expect at least three must- haves: good service' good food' and good drink.

Perhaps the usual house manager wasn't in or was it just complacency that let me down on all three during my latest visit to Cafe Rouge at BrindleyPlace?

I know it's a chain, but it's no average burger or pizza outlet.

And while I wasn't demanding the latest, the grandest and the most impeccable, nor was I expecting to spend the time at my table ruing the decision to eat there. But that was the reality endured.
