The president of Laurel and Pimlico wants to offer races for Arabian horses on an experimental basis. His proposal may have seemed innocuous and quirky when he first made it, but the issue has turned into a jihad, a hot controversy pitting thoroughbred horsemen against management. Horsemen opposed the idea so vehemently at the Maryland Racing Commission's hearing Wednesday that the commission deferred its decision.
