FURIOUS union officials today accused Sandwell Council of
"stabbing them in the back" after the bombshell news that meals on
wheels cooks are to lose their jobs.
A dozen workers, who have been preparing meals for hundreds of
pensioners across the borough for more than 20 years, have been told
they are being made redundant.
The shock news follows the decision by Sandwell Council to farm
out work to European food giants Apetito.
And the redundancies come just two months after council chiefs
assured cooks they would not be facing the dole queue.
