A D.C. Superior Court judge, declaring that Georgetown University
administrators had "manipulated" the school's governing board and
bypassed the faculty, ordered the university yesterday to take no
further steps to close its dental school, which is scheduled to be
phased out by 1990.
In a sharply worded 35-page opinion, Judge Eugene N. Hamilton
said the president of Georgetown, the Rev. Timothy S. Healy, and
Executive Vice President John F. Griffith had acted in "in willful,
knowing and intentional violation" of university rules by not seeking
advice from the Faculty Senate before recommending last year that the
87-year-old dental school be closed.
