In the editorial "The Gulf: The War" {April 20}, The Post's
argument would have been more valid had it been supported with
substantial facts.
Iraq has never been reported to have hit neutral commercial
shipping in the Gulf except Iranian-bound ships sailing close to
Iranian shores, which I believe is accepted as legitimate in time of
war. However, whenever Iran feels unable to achieve "victory" on
land, it resorts to attacking neutral shipping.
Again, it was Iran that used chemical weapons in its endeavor to
occupy Iraqi territory. About 90 Iraqi soldiers were injured in the
attack ...
