Article: pounds 3.5m refurb for Wyndley ... I think POOLS CRISIS: Leisure chief Ray Hassall begins to make up his mind over funding

TROUBLED Birmingham leisure chief Coun Ray Hassall today revealed he wants to opt for a pounds 3.5 million refurb for a city swimming pool... if he can persuade the council to find the money.

Increasingly under pressure to find a solution to the crumbling Wyndley baths, in Sutton Coldfield, Coun Hassall (Lib Dem, Perry Barr) now wants to start a quality patch and repair job. It's the cheapest of several options that have been touted for the site, one of which included bull-dozing it and replacing it with a brand new leisure facility costing up to pounds 30 million.

But the promised refurbishment is still not a water-tight guarantee, as Coun Hassall still has to persuade his cabinet ...
