It is difficult to write a measured response to the two pieces
{Free for All, April 16; Outlook, April 17} by Selig S. Harrison.
Not only does he not understand what has happened in Afghanistan, but
his flawed vision of the future is anathema to those of us who have
spent years living in and studying about Afghanistan. (I began in
1949.)
Harrison contends that an Islamic fundamentalist clique dominates
the resistance alliance. Not true. For one thing, the resistance
must be divided into two major groupings: the Alliance of Seven of
the Peshawar Merry-Go-Round and, more important, the regional
resistance leaders inside Afghanistan.
