There are those who say that Americans as a breed often lack
civility, wearing T-shirts to church, combing our hair in public,
butting in line and the like. Thank heavens that the British, who
many see as the parents of whom we are the rebellious children, are
there to pull us back from the brink of barbarity.
A new note-or notes, to be more precise-of civility was sounded
yesterday in the halls of the Supreme Court, when a grand piano
donated by a group called the British Institute was dedicated before
a very well-behaved audience of justices, friends, relations and
associates (who are not always one and the same).
Not that the court has been pianoless all these years. A
