David Schoenbrun, 73, a World War II correspondent who after he
was recruited for CBS News by Edward R. Murrow became a
highly-respected Paris correspondent and the first broadcast
journalist to report from Vietnam, died at a hospital here May 23
after a heart attack.
Mr. Schoenbrun began his CBS career in 1947. He was part of a
highly respected and warmly remembered generation of CBS journalists.
These included not only Murrow, but also such figures as Winston
Burdette, Charles Collingwood and Douglas Edwards.
A former high school French teacher, he is probably
best-remembered for his brilliant coverage of the France of Charles
de Gaulle.
