CBS anchor Bob Schieffer was honored with the Fred Friendly First
Amendment Award this week from the Communications Department of
Quinnipiac University. The annual award was presented at a TV news
star-studded luncheon in New York City Tuesday. According to online
QU Daily and QU spokesman John Morgan, Schieffer said in his remarks
that he cannot recall a more challenging time for journalists.
"People either accuse us of being government lapdogs or elitist
liberals who want the country to fail,"he said to a crowd that
included QU officials and Walter Cronkite, Charles Osgood, Ann Curry
and Brian Williams.
