Article: Greek Americans, Home State Boost Dukakis' Coffers

In raising almost $24 million in his run for the presidency, Gov. Michael S. Dukakis with unprecedented success has tapped the deep pockets of two neighborly constituencies-fellow Greek Americans around the nation and residents and business people of his native Bay State, election finance records show.

Massachusetts donors have contributed more than $6.5 million and Greek Americans more than $3 million.

Dukakis' take from in-state contributors is almost double the amount he amassed in any of his four campaigns for governor-a success some of his former rivals for the Democratic nomination find easy to explain.
