The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford is negotiating a sale
of the old St. Boniface church and rectory to Trinity Baptist Church,
a congregation founded 30 years ago by Yale Divinity School students.
Hartford Archbishop Henry J. Mansell wants the 83-year-old St.
Boniface building at 630 State St., to remain a house of worship and
feels Trinity Baptist would be a good fit, said the Rev. John Gatzak,
an archdiocese spokesman.
"The archbishop wanted the faith legacy of the parish to continue
with another worshipping community," Gatzak said. "We have had other
expressed interest in the property for uses other than a church. Some
groups wanted to tear the church down."
