If Barbie were alive - and haven't we been made to feel that she
just about is - one wonders if, after seeing "Plastic Princess:
Barbie as Art" she'd run kicking and screaming into the arms of Ken
now that he's back in her good graces or perhaps seclude herself in
her Dream House. As Robbin Zella, director of the Housatonic Museum,
who helped curate the irreverent and relevant exhibit at the Burt
Chernow Gallery there with Leonie Bradbury, says, "It's all about
fun, because Barbie is fun."
Mattel, Inc., Barbie's parents and parent company since her
"birth" in 1959, might agree with the fun part, but not with the
biting satire which addresses the objectification of women, rampant ...
