Article: REGISTER NORTH: Students get taste of election process with school lunch campaign

Pete Pizza was elected the nation's favorite school lunch by more than 220,000 students nationwide who cast a ballot in the "Vote For School Lunch" campaign, a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the National School Lunch Program. Created by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association, the "Vote For School Lunch" campaign transformed five healthful school versions of favorite lunches into fun, life-like candidates.

Students voted in schools and online at www.VoteForSchoolLunch.org since late August. The national winner was announced Oct. 11 at Parker Farms Elementary School during National School Lunch Week.

The candidates were:

- Pete Pizza: Whole-wheat crust and low-fat mozzarella cheese
