What if BEV.net had never happened?
What if 10 years ago this month, Virginia Tech, the town of
Blacksburg and C&P had not announced a grand experiment to create the
Blacksburg Electronic Village?
Blacksburg wouldn't have famously become the "most wired town in
America," but residents still would have gotten computers and they
still would have gone online, like countless people in places without
electronic villages.
"If we'd done absolutely nothing, we'd be in roughly the same
place," Tech professor John Carroll said. But, he said, residents
would have missed out on an exciting community experience - the
opportunity to pioneer new technology and ideas.
