Rabbit. It's what's for dinner.
That adaptation of the popular advertising slogan has been on my
mind today because, well, rabbit's on the menu tonight.
Nothing fancy. Just rabbit dredged in flour and pan-fried.
It should be tasty. Most meals featuring fish and game are.
That's one of the benefits of fishing and hunting. It's also one
of the obligations. You eat what you kill.
It's usually pretty good, but not always.
A couple decades ago my brother and I headed home from an evening
of fishing with a half-dozen pan-sized bullheads. We should have
known better. It was late summer and the river was low, warm and
stinky. We somehow persuaded Mom to fry the fish for us for lunch the
