If the mood of the night was mostly somber, there were also
moments when it seemed to be verging on something rollicky,
gospel-rollicky. There was hand-clapping and body-swaying. There
was old-time piano-banging. There was hugging. There were tears,
not totally of grief. No matter the sea of dark suits and dignified
faces, there was almost a feeling of being present at some massive
outdoor church picnic where there would soon be fiery Irish political
oratory.
More than 10,000 people stood and sat and even knelt on a great
greensward of hillside at Arlington National Cemetery last night to
commemorate the 20th anniversary of Robert Kennedy's death. It was
called "A Mass of Remembrance and ...
