Declaring that "today, it's a whole new ball game-spring training
is over," Vice President Bush ripped into Massachusetts Gov. Michael
S. Dukakis, the apparent Democratic presidential nominee, as a
tax-raising liberal who let murderers out of jail and whose foreign
policy views were "born in Harvard Yard's boutique."
In a spirited address today to the Texas Republican state
convention intended to kick off his campaign against Dukakis, Bush
offered a harsh assessment of his opponent as a "defender of a flawed
world view" whose policies are "shaped by the old inconsistencies of
the left" and whose values are "out of the mainstream."
