Christian ministers and lay leaders gathered Thursday at the Hotel
Roanoke to formally announce that Franklin Graham, son of evangelist
Billy Graham, will lead a weekend of evangelistic services in the
Roanoke Valley next spring.
Graham, 50, will preach May 2-4 in Salem Stadium, beside the Salem
Civic Center. He was invited to lead the services by a committee that
has been organizing, conducting research and holding prayer sessions
about the event for several months.
The event, incorporated as Southwest Virginia Festival 2003 with
Franklin Graham, is one of only three Graham will lead in the United
States next year, said the Rev. Quigg Lawrence, a member of the
organizing committee.
