A split Roanoke Wildlife Task Force reaffirmed its support for
managed deer killing Wednesday, sending that recommendation back to
the city administration.
After receiving the task force's initial, multifaceted plan in
August, City Manager Darlene Burcham last month had returned the
culling idea to the group. She asked that it first try to gather more
evidence that the city really has a problem with too many deer.
Meeting Wednesday for the first time since Burcham's decision, the
task force, on a 4-3 vote, tossed its recommendation back to the city
administration. The majority said the group has done enough research
since it was formed about six months ago and it's time the city got
to work ...
