Article: Judge Refuses to Void Law on Classified Data; North Must Cite Secrets He'll Use in Trial

U.S. District Court Judge Gerhard A. Gesell refused yesterday to strike down the law governing introduction of classified information and ordered former White House aide Oliver L. North to inform the court of the government secrets he intends to disclose in his defense.

The decision appears to pave the way for setting a trial date, which Gesell has said he wants to do by July 1.

Gesell acknowledged that it would be "impossible" for him to conduct the case under the strictures of the Classified Information Procedures Act (CIPA), which defense lawyers assailed as unconstitutional.
