Blacksburg police have embarked on a campaign to provide new child
safety seats to needy families this holiday season.
The idea for this year's holiday project, a tradition at the
Blacksburg Police Department for the past decade, came after police
officers saw a marked increase in the number of people relying on
used child safety seats this year, Officer David Cole said.
"The problem with second-hand seats is that, number one, if it's
ever been involved in an accident, you can't use it, or you're not
supposed to use it again," Cole said.
People who aren't the original owners of child safety seats aren't
notified of any recalls associated with the devices. And companies
