Abdi Bile always has let his running do the talking. He prefers
it that way. It means he doesn't have to talk.
That's fine for Bile, the world champion in the 1,500-meter run,
who is going to the Seoul Olympics to race against England's Steve
Cram and Morocco's Said Aouita. Bile has gone through a brilliant
collegiate career at George Mason, winning two NCAA championships
just as quiet as you please.
"I don't talk too much," he said, metronomic pauses between
sentences. "So most of the time, I'm with the people, but kind of
quiet. All my life, I don't have any problem or conflict with
anybody. I get along with anybody. But at the same time, I'm not
