Deer hunting in Roanoke won't start anytime soon.
City Manager Darlene Burcham has returned to a citizens task force
a proposal that Roanoke cull its deer herd with sharpshooters.
Burcham, who requested the committee do more homework, sided with the
panel's lone dissenter - a move that likely will spark more intense
debate when it reconvenes.
"Before we undertake such a program, it is vital for us to be able
to document the correlation between health and safety factors versus
the increasing number of deer," Burcham said.
In August, the specially appointed Wildlife Task Force recommended
that the city employ a multifaceted approach to reduce its population
of deer and other "nuisance" ...
