Ten months ago, the Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank
suffered a devastating blow.
The FBI had launched an investigation into the food bank's
finances during its first 2 1 / 2 years as an independent agency.
Several of its largest donors had been subpoenaed for records of
their contributions during those years.
Food bank officials were stunned, and offered their full
cooperation. But 10 months later, they're no closer to resolving the
case.
"It's just sitting there," said Jim Pearman, president of the food
bank's board of directors. "We've had no direct contact with them
[the FBI]."
