As the Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank clears one
hurdle in its efforts to provide food for the needy, another one
looms.
On Monday, the FBI announced it had closed its yearlong
investigation of the Roanoke nonprofit organization. U.S. Attorney
John Brownlee said his office "declined prosecution" of the food
bank, but offered no further explanation on the decision.
"We evaluated the case and made a judgment," Brownlee said. "We
try to be thorough and complete and I believe we've done that."
Though food bank officials have been saying for a year that they
have nothing to hide from investigators, the news still offered
comfort and closure.
