To dub or not to dub. That is always the question with
foreign-language movies in the United States. Call it snobbery, call
it elitism, but as one of the charter members of the anti-dubbing
club, I must report that "My Life As a Dog" loses for me almost half
its charm and existential electricity in the English-language dubbed
videocassette.
Fortunately, this month, Paramount is also releasing the
original Swedish-
language, subtitled version-on which I was widely quoted during the
movie's theatrical release to the effect ...
