Christians opposed to increased beer and wine availability at Roanoke Civic Center events almost got the city council to rescind a request for an expanded alcohol license Tuesday.

But what they got instead was a council assurance that the city would ask the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Department to find a larger room for a 9 a.m. Thursday hearing on the issue.

In between, they witnessed a display of council parliamentary politics.
